AI-26GR AIR-COOLED PISTON ENGINE At the end of 1947 the factory began pre-production activities to manufacture the seven-cylinder AI-26GR engine of A.G.Ivchenko design. That was the first piston water-cooled engine in the USSR and beyond intended for helicopters providing 500 hp at takeoff. The AI-26GR engine was installed on the G-4 helicopters and the engine derivatives with power enhanced to 550 hp were installed on the B-5, B-9, B-11 helicopters. The 575 hp AI-26V engine version powered the Mi-1 helicopter.
