AI-23S1, AI-21 GAS-TURBINE ENGINES

In 1967 the factory manufactured the AI-23S1 gas-turbine engine. It was designed for Taifun vessel built by Leningrad shipbuilders. The AI-23S1 engine was used in the vessel as the propeller main drive.

The cooperation of the Motor Sich specialists with Paton Electrical Welding Institute resulted in the development of pipe-welding complex Sever-1 on the basis of the GTU-1000 gas-turbogenerating installation. The GTU-1000 incorporates the AI-21 gas-turbine engine, three-phase synchronous generator and control station. The use of Sever-1 complex at the construction of gas and oil pipelines has brought about 7 to 8 times increase of labour productivity during welding of the large-diameter pipes.
